Retired members
The D&S Retired Members Section invites all members to join its ranks no matter whether you are leaving for age reasons or taking early release. The section is run by a committee of 7 with Eric Luxton as Secretary and Michael Burgess as Chairman. We have a very active section which meets on at least 3 times a year with guest speakers plus an annual dinner.
Members are encouraged to join because they enjoy all the same benefits as they did in service for just over £4 a month or put more subtly less that half a pint of beer a week, this involves use of the solicitor’s advice scheme, use of the Unions solicitors for accidents and the free Wills service. In addition there is the death grant to take into account currently standing at £700, members will have paid into this for the whole time that they have been members and we believe that it is short sighted to throw all that away just because you are leaving the company.
